Ende 2016 stellte der Radrennstall Tinkoff nach 18 Jahren im weltweiten Rennsportzirkus seinen Betrieb ein. Zuletzt hatte Peter Sagan zwei Weltmeistertitel im Tinkoff-Trikot gewonnen, nun ist dieses Team – wie viele andere zuvor – Geschichte.
Zeit, den vielen historischen Radsportteams in einer kurzen Rückschau zu huldigen. Aufgeführt sind hier in chronologischer Reihenfolge ihrer Gründung alle Mannschaften, die folgende Kriterien erfüllen, um als „historisch“ zu gelten: Sie müssen (a) mindestens fünf Jahre am Stück Profi-Status besessen haben, (b) mindestens eine der drei großen Rundfahrten (Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a España) oder einen der fünf „Monumente des Radsports“ (Mailand-Sanremo, Flandern-Rundfahrt, Paris-Roubaix, Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich, Lombardei-Rundfahrt) gewonnen haben – und (c) heute nicht mehr existieren. So kommen 101 Mannschaften zusammen.
Bis Mitte der 50er Jahre war es nur Firmen, die unmittelbar mit dem Radsport zu tun hatten, erlaubt, professionelle Teams zu sponsern. In den Vorkriegsjahren waren es somit in der Regel Fahrradfabrikanten aus Frankreich, Belgien und Italien, die ihren Bekanntheitsgrad mit Hilfe von erfolgreichen Berufsradfahrern steigerten. Das änderte sich, als der Kosmetikartikelhersteller Nivea den Italiener Fiorenzo Magni unterstützte und schließlich ein Team um ihn aufbaute. In den 60er Jahren stiegen auch Alkohol- und Zigarettenhersteller in das Geschäft ein, was irgendwie unpassend war und später auch verboten wurde.
Diese Auflistung erhebt keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit, die Recherche zu diesem Thema war aufgrund widersprüchlicher Angaben in den verschiedenen Quellen nicht immer ganz einfach. Manche Teams haben zudem ihre Namen über die Jahre geändert, sind aber rein rechtlich ein und dasselbe Team geblieben. So ist zum Beispiel die spanische Banesto-Mannschaft, für die Miguel Indurain Anfang der 90er Jahre fünf Tour-Siege in Folge einfuhr, immer noch existent und somit in dieser Liste nicht vertreten. 1980 als „Reynolds“ gegründet und 1990 durch einen Sponsorenwechsel in „Banesto“ umbenannt, heißt sie mittlerweile seit 2011 „Movistar“ und mischt immer noch munter in der Szene mit.
Die abgebildeten Trikots stellen nur eine Auswahl dar, sie stammen jedoch alle aus einem Jahr, in dem das entsprechende Team eines der eingangs genannten großen Rennen gewonnen hat! Der kunterbunte, verspätete LSD-Trip vom Team Mapei. Ewiges Bianchi-Celeste. Das Trikot des Weltmeisters mit dem Brustring in den Farben des Regenbogens.
